Told “Too Old” To Play Shante Broadus In ‘Snoop’

Gail Bean spilled the Hollywood casting tea during a recent interview, revealing she was told she’s “too old” to play Storm in ‘X-Men.’ Not only that, but she was also told that she’s too old to play Shante Broadus in the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic.

Gail Bean Reveals Told She’s “Too Old” For ‘X-Men’ & ‘Snoop’

During an appearance on the podcast ‘DMC with Na’im Lynn,’ Bean revealed that she was told she was too old for two Hollywood projects. The reveal came after Lynn brought up the 33-year-old actress’s age.

“Let me tell you something,” said Bean. “And we’re not even really talking about the industry. But just to get into the industry, a deep meaningful conversation piece that needs to happen when it comes to women in their age. I have been told this year alone for two projects [that] I was too old and I do not look…”

Lynn interjected to note that the actress looks “like a godd*mn teenager” before Bean also revealed she was told she was “too old” to play Snoop Dogg’s wife, Shante Broadus, in the upcoming film, ‘Snoop.’

“So I was told I was too old to play Shantae, Snoop Dogg’s wife,” she added. “They doing a biopic.”

In addition, Bean revealed she was also told she’s too old to play Storm in the film ‘X-Men.’

“I was told I was too old to play Storm,” she said. “They didn’t even want me to audition.”

Lynn noted that casting directors need to see the actors in person instead of doing the math in their heads, instead of “actually looking at you.” Bean agreed.

Gail Bean Stars in ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’

‘Snowfall’ fans have been awaiting the sequel, ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga,’ ever since the FX series ended in 2023. The series ran for six seasons, and Bean starred in the drama as Wanda Bell.

Bean reprises her role in the sequel, and the first episode aired on September 8. The ‘Unexpected’ actress told Bossip that it has not yet “set in” that she’s leading a TV show. The FX drama follows Bell as she reinvents herself in 1990s Los Angeles and enters the world of West Coast rap.

“It has not set in,” she said. “Every day I’m like, wait, what? When they first broke the news that I would be the number one, I said, ‘I’m sorry, excuse me?’ Because even — it’s so crazy, even in 2026, when they told us back when we were shooting season six of ‘Snowfall’, in my mind I just thought, Oh okay, Leon and Wanda getting a spinoff. He’s gonna be number one, I’m gonna be number two. Which is crazy that even in the world today, that’s not the first thought of, like, that I could ever be the lead. That they would put a Black female as the lead.”
