Bengaluru Pink Line Metro: Elevated Stretch to Open on November 13, 2026

0

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro network is set for another major expansion with the upcoming inauguration of the Pink Line’s elevated section on November 13, 2026. The corridor is supposed to provide better connectivity between various residential neighbourhoods, commercial hubs and transportation hubs in South and North Bengaluru.

Bengaluru Metro Pink Line: Project Overview

The Pink Line being developed by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is part of Namma Metro Phase 2. The corridor will run for about 21.26 km between Kalena Agrahara in the South to Nagawara in the North of Bengaluru. It spans an elevated, 7.5 km, and underground, 13.76 km, section and has 18 stations.

The raised portion will enhance connectivity along the Bannerghatta Road corridor, whereas the underground segment will run through a few locations of central Bengaluru route to Nagawara. When completed, it will offer a north-south route, as well as linking several residential, commercial and institutional areas which are currently congested on the roads.

The project is split into two construction packages, each having a different engineering requirement. The higher stretch is situated along the south side of the corridor and the lower stretch is located in the crowded central part of the city of Bengaluru. The full line is expected to offer integrated north-south connection which is planned to be fully commissioned in May 2027.

Elevated Section: Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere

The elevated stretch will run from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere via IIM Bangalore, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Hulimavu stations and has a total length of 7.5 km. The stretch will enhance connectivity along Bannerghatta Road, which will help the residential areas like Gottigere, Hulimavu, Arekere, Bilekahalli and JP Nagar. A mix of apartments, gated and plotted developments are available in these markets.

The better connectivity to the Yellow Line via Jayadeva Hospital interchange will further enhance the connectivity to Electronic City and Bommasandra. Average asking price for properties in 2026 were around ₹12,500 per sq.ft. on Bannerghatta Road, ₹11,500 per sq.ft. in Hulimavu and Kalena Agrahara, and ₹10,500 per sq.ft. in Gottigere. The new commute is expected to help sustain interest in buying or renting homes and new residential development along the route.

Underground Section: Dairy Circle to Nagawara

The 13.76-km underground section will connect Dairy Circle, Lakkasandra, Langford Town, National Military School, MG Road, Shivajinagar, Cantonment, Pottery Town, Tannery Road, Venkateshpura, Kadugondanahalli and Nagawara.  In Central Bangalore, areas like Wilson Garden, Langford Town and Richmond Town can become more accessible for premium housing, rental properties and retail, as a result of the development of commercial areas.

The Purple Line interchange will provide improved connectivity between MG Road and Shivajinagar with the rest of the city. To the north, Tannery Road and Nagawara and Pottery Town may benefit from increased residential access. Nagawara has special significance because of its close proximity to Manyata Tech Park and the upcoming Blue Line interchange. The strong rent demand by IT professionals around the area might offer better prospects for nearby markets like HBR Layout and Thanisandra and better connectivity to employment hubs.

Pink Line Metro Inauguration and Opening Status

The 6-stations, 7.5-km long elevated Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere will be inaugurated on November 13, 2026, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The stretch was granted CMRS clearance for safety on October 28, allowing for passenger services.

Bengaluru’s Metro system will reach the 100 km mark upon completion when its network will be expanded from 96.1 km to around 103.6 km. The rest of the 13.76-km underground stretch from Dairy Circle to Nagawara will be finished by May 2027.

Pink Line Underground Section: Progress and Expected Completion

The final construction phase of the 13.76-km underground tunnel between Dairy Circle and Nagawara is underway. The tunnelling works were completed in October 2024 and the track-laying works took place in May 2026. The electrical, signalling, telecommunications, ventilation and firefighting systems are being installed at all 12 stations.

Installation and integration of platform screen doors (PSDs) is one of the key pending factors as this will be Bengaluru’s first Metro corridor to have this feature. Trial runs are planned for November-December 2026 and passenger services are planned by May 2027 subject to testing and safety approvals.

Pink Line Metro Interchanges and Connectivity

The Pink Line will be integrated with the existing and proposed Metro lines of Bengaluru to ease accessibility to prime employment, commercial or residential areas.

The key interchange points include:

  • Jayadeva Hospital: Interchange with the working Yellow Line, which is connected to Electronic City and Bommasandra.
  • MG Road: Purple Line will connect passengers from the MG Road to Whitefield, Indiranagar, Majestic and other important areas.
  • Nagawara: Proposed interchange on the proposed Blue Line that would link Central Silk Board, Outer Ring Road employment corridor, Hebbal and Kempegowda International Airport.

These interchanges are supposed to enhance the connectivity between the north and south and make commuters less dependent on road transport among the major employment centres of Bengaluru. The Nagawara interchange will play a special role for professionals accessing Manyata Tech Park and the northern IT corridor.

How Will the Pink Line Benefit Bengaluru Commuters?

The Pink Line is expected to improve daily commuting by providing a direct Metro connection between South, Central and North Bengaluru. The elevated section will ease access along Bannerghatta Road, which experiences heavy traffic during peak hours. Commuters travelling from Hulimavu, Gottigere and JP Nagar will gain better access to central business districts and other employment hubs.

The under ground section will also to further enhance connectivity between MG Road, Shivajinagar and Nagawara, thereby de-depending on road transportation for daily commute. Passengers can board the Yellow and Purple Lines at Interchange stations at Jayadeva Hospital and MG Road respectively, and the planned Blue Line interchange at Nagawara will enhance connectivity towards the airport corridor and key IT hubs.

Conclusion

The Pink Line will strengthen Bengaluru’s Metro network by improving connectivity across South, Central and North Bengaluru. While the elevated section will provide immediate benefits along Bannerghatta Road, the complete corridor is expected to support commuter convenience, residential demand and commercial real estate growth once operational.
