The following is an abridged transcript:

Shares of neocloud companies are tumbling after Elon Musk warned that more than 200 names in the space could disappear amid an AI lending crunch.

“200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many,” Musk said in a post that also announced that SpaceX raised $40B in mostly callable debt to buy GPUs.

Nebius (NBIS), CoreWeave (CRWV) and Iren (IREN) are all lower premarket.

Neocloud companies rent specialized GPU compute capacity to AI developers and other customers. Many have pursued rapid expansion to capitalize on demand for computing power, often relying on borrowed money to acquire the hardware.

Musk noted SpaceX’s investment-grade credit standing and revenue from its Starlink satellite internet and rocket-launch businesses helped the company secure financing despite a sharp deterioration in lending conditions.

“As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers,” Musk wrote.

The comments underscore a growing concern for investors as tech companies borrow heavily to finance the construction of AI data centers and purchases of increasingly expensive equipment. While established companies can rely on substantial cash flow from existing businesses, smaller AI infrastructure providers often depend on continued access to debt and equity markets to finance expansion.

SK Hynix (SKHY) is preparing to distribute approximately 16T won ($12B) to shareholders through a special dividend funded by gains from its investment in Japanese memory-chip maker Kioxia Holdings (KXIAY) (KXHCF), South Korea’s DongA Ilbo newspaper reported.

The proposed payout would represent about 80% of the estimated 20T won in gains generated from selling down its Kioxia investment during the first half of 2026.

SK Hynix is expected to announce the dividend alongside its Q3 numbers Wednesday.

The distribution could also bolster shareholder confidence as semiconductor stocks face growing scrutiny over valuations and AI spending.

And Halloween candy sales are declining as financially strained Americans cut back on discretionary purchases. Higher chocolate prices and rising household expenses are weighing on demand ahead of the holiday.

U.S. candy sales fell 6.7% in the four weeks ended Oct. 17 from a year earlier, according to NielsenIQ data cited by the Associated Press. Sales had dropped 11.7% in mid-September, reversing the early-season gains recorded during the previous two years.

Candy prices have substantially outpaced broader food inflation. Government figures show that candy and gum prices climbed 44% over the five years through September, compared with a 22.5% increase in grocery prices.

Cocoa prices have contributed to the increases. Futures reached a record $10,710 per metric ton in January 2025 amid unfavorable weather in West Africa and speculative trading.

In premarket trading

Stock index futures are slightly higher as Wall Street looks to recover from a tough week when the AI trade took a beating.

Treasury yields are slightly lower on the longer end of the curve as traders look ahead to the Fed rate decision on Wednesday.

The economic calendar is fairly light:

  • 1:00 p.m. 2-year note auction

And today is National Financial Crime Fighter Day, which recognizes Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering professionals.

As they say, or should, “Thumbs up from Fonzie for those who root out the Ponzi.”
