Gina Gershon Thought She “Broke Tom Cruise’s Nose” While Filming Their ‘Cocktail’ Love Scene
Gina Gershon‘s love of merkins wasn’t the only jaw-dropping tidbit she shared on Wednesday night’s episode of Watch What Happens Live. The beloved actress also revealed that she and Tom Cruise kissed “as much as [they] could” while filming Cocktail — even though he was newly married to Mimi Rogers!
Gershon and her Borderlands co-star Cate Blanchett stopped by the Bravo Clubhouse, where host Andy Cohen asked the former if she ever hooked up with Cruise when they filmed the 1988 rom-com.
“Oh, my God. Do you think I would actually answer that if that was true?” she initially teased.
However, Gershon noted that Cruise had “just gotten married and his wife was very present” on set.
“But we did kiss as much as we could,” she admitted. “Every scene it was like, ‘Should we kiss in this scene? Oh, yeah. I think we should kiss in this scene.’”
According to Gershon, she filmed her “first love scene ever” with Cruise for the flick. While she said the actor was a complete “gentleman” about it, she did recall the time he ignored her warning that she was extremely ticklish.
“At one point, he starts off under the covers and I told him I was very ticklish. I said, ‘No, no. Don’t ever do that,’” Gershon said. “And in one take, I have to say, I think he wanted a reaction and he grabbed my stomach and I kneed him right in the nose.”
Gershon continued, “I was like, ‘Oh, my God. I just broke Tom Cruise’s nose.’ And he was like, ‘No, no. You told me.’ I was like, ‘I’m so sorry.’ He’s like, ’Nope, it was my fault.’ He was so protective over me. He was great.”
Blanchett, for her part, couldn’t help but notice that Gershon put her hands over her chest when she gushed over Cruise’s protectiveness.
“He was so protective of me,” Blanchett repeated as she put her hands over her own chest, while Cohen joked, “And my breasts!”
Gershon then quipped, “He kept covering me up with his hands!”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
