Saoirse Ronan is getting candid about her relationships and how she thought she’d “never” have a partner or a “beautiful network” of people in her life.

“My life has become so much more than just work,” Ronan, 30, told USA Today in an interview published last month. “For a long time, that’s all I did; that’s how I met people and made sense of the world.”

She continued, “I feel like I’m part of a group, which I never thought I would have. I used to think, ‘You’ll never have friends. You’ll never have a partner.’ I was so in my own world, in a lot of ways. So now, to feel like I’ve got a very rich personal and social life – it’s so precious to me.”

Ronan and her husband, Jack Lowden, were first linked in 2018; however, the pair have kept their relationship mostly out of the spotlight over the years.

“Oh I’m not going to talk about that. I don’t like talking about that side of life,” Lowden, 34, told ES Magazine in February 2019 when asked about his relationship. “Most of the actors I know live pretty normal lives, it’s just every now and again they have to do something ridiculous or extraordinary. My life hasn’t changed. People seem more interested — I guess that’s changed, for sure.”

Though the Lady Bird actress made various appearances on Lowden’s Instagram in 2022, the images have since been deleted. She showed up in a social media snap once again in May 2023, but it appeared to just be the back of her head. Since then, Lowden has started sharing images of her face.

According to Scottish civil marriage records viewed by Us Weekly, Ronan and Lowden privately wed in July. The twosome later made their first red carpet appearance as a married couple in September at the Emmys where Lowden was nominated for his supporting role in the drama Slow Horses.

Their appearance came ahead of their movie, The Outrun, which stars Ronan and is produced by her husband. The actress stars as an alcoholic woman who returns to her homeland of Scotland to heal from her past, and her performance is already generating Oscar buzz.

“If you find people that you love and you trust creatively, why would you not want to keep working with them?” the actress told The Times. “We have very high expectations for one another — when I tried out Rona’s Orcadian accent on him for The Outrun, he said, ‘You’re not doing that, are you?’”
