The New York Jets were founded in 1959 and played their first season in 1960 in the AFL. The Jets are one of two teams to win their single appearance in the Super Bowl (Saints) providing endless loser fodder to shared stadium tenants the New York Giants.

Even with the Super Bowl III in 1968 victory led by Broadway Joe Namath over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts, they are one of four teams to never win an AFC Championship.

Only two teams have a longer Super Bowl drought than the Jets – The Lions and Browns.
