Chicago police officer wounded by gunfire
A Chicago police officer was shot Monday night on the South Side, sources said.
The officer was shot around 8 p.m. near the intersection of East 82nd Street and South Ingleside Avenue. Additional details of the shooting were not immediately available but sources said the officer was in critical condition.
By 8:30 p.m., squad cars blocked off much of South Cottage Grove Avenue by the University of Chicago Medical Center, where the officer was being treated.
Just before 9 p.m., a man in a white coat emerged from the emergency room and gestured for a crowd of officers to follow him around the block inside the hospital.
Officers inside the hospital could be seen reacting to the situation inside the hospital.
Police did not immediately announce a press conference Monday night.
