MILWAUKEE — If Brandon Nimmo had some help with his ninth-inning single, he knows where it came from.

In a celebratory and raucous clubhouse after the comeback, 4-2 Mets win over the Brewers at American Family Field to reach the National League Division Series, Nimmo revealed that shortly before the game he learned his grandmother had died.

“It’s just a huge roller-coaster of emotions today,” Nimmo said after his single put the tying run on base, which preceded the go-ahead, three-run home run from Pete Alonso. “It did put things in perspective for me.”

Nimmo played in the win-or-go-home game after hearing the news.

He believes his grandmother would have appreciated what came next.

“To score four runs in the ninth inning and to come back, I know she would have loved that,” Nimmo said, “and she would have been cheering us on.”
