Hilliard was arrested Monday on felony charges of theft and embezzlement of public property and a misdemeanor charge of official misconduct.
The Boulder County District Attorney’s Office alleges Hilliard stole nearly $10,000 during his tenure as the administrator for Colorado’s Nike Elite program from 2021-25.
Hilliard joined USA Swimming in December after leaving his position at Colorado, the first major hiring by new USA Swimming CEO Kevin Ring.
USA Swimming, which oversees competitive swimming from youth levels to the Olympics, confirmed to The Athletic on Tuesday that it will immediately begin a search for Hilliard’s replacement.
