When Foxconn, the world’s biggest iPhone assembler, starts looking for land near your city, it’s news worth paying attention to. This company is scouting for a plot near Sanand, Ahmedabad, and this move shows how Gujarat is rapidly rising as India’s electronics and semiconductor hub.
What’s Actually Being Planned
Foxconn is scouting a land parcel of more than 200 acres to set up a technology park and a high-end electronics manufacturing facility, near Sanand in Ahmedabad district. And with this, Foxconn is expected to finalise its choice of location in the coming weeks. Also, Vedanta and Foxconn in Dholerahave an earlier ₹1,54,000 crore MoU for a semiconductor and display unit, which is expected to create a lakh jobs. This shows Foxconn already has skin in the game in Gujarat.

Tata Motors runs a 1,100 acre passenger vehicle plant producing the Tiago and Tigor and is employing over 4,500 people.

It has a proven industrial ecosystem, from Tata Motors’ car plant to some of India’s most advanced semiconductor facilities, the region already has the skilled labour, vendor networks and industrial infrastructure in place. Backing this up is strong state government support, with Gujarat offering customised incentives and pledging all possible assistance to smooth projects along. On top of this, Sanand has become a genuine magnet for electronics majors, with a growing semiconductor cluster, making it a natural extension for a company like Foxconn looking to deepen its footprint in Indian electronics.

If Sanand is finalised, Gujarat would slowly become India’s biggest semiconductor hub, making Gujarat, India’s default electronics manufacturing address.
