As the Women’s Reservation Bill was introduced in a special session of Parliament on Tuesday, the meeting on this historic day was attended not only by MPs but also by a group of women achievers as special guests.
The bill, which has been introduced in the ongoing special session, seeks to retain one-third of the seats in Parliament and in state and union territory assemblies.
Special guests include a group of accomplished women from various fields. Actor Kangana Ranaut; fashion designer Rina Dhaka; actor Esha Gupta were among the special guests. Athletes and Arjuna Award winners Neha Rathi, Geetika Jakhar and Alka Tomar were also among the female achievers invited to witness the award ceremony.

Other distinguished women present at the meeting included Padam Shri singer Sumitra Guha; senior Bharatanatyam representative Nandini Ramani; Padam Shri Odissi dancer Ranjana Gauhar; Padamshri Kathak dancer Nalini and Kamalini; and Haryanvi dancer Sapna Choudhary.
Ranaut told reporters that this was a “historic day for the country and its women”. She also said that the first session of the new parliament was dedicated to “women’s empowerment” and emphasized that women now play a more active role in various fields.

Dhaka thanked Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur for inviting women achievers to the Parliament to witness the introduction of the bill. “This is a huge victory for women in this country. At the same time, Rati added, this would encourage more women to enter politics.
