Angels—— “Black Cake” presents one mystery after another in its first seven episodes. As we approach the season finale, there’s still a big secret yet to be revealed.
“Everyone has their questions about the show. I think there are a lot of unanswered questions,” Mia Isaacs, who plays Covey, told “Red Carpet.” “One of the big questions is, who did the murder! I think that’s what everyone wants to know. Hopefully you’ll find out by the end of the season, but I can’t say too much.”
While she won’t spoil the series finale, Isaac did talk about playing the key role of Covey.
“From the moment I first auditioned, the idea of landing this role was daunting,” Isaac reveals. “Then when I got the role I realized I was going to be starring in a show and I’d never done that before so it was a new experience for me. I was 17 , I couldn’t believe I had to carry so much.”
In fact, the character Covey has been through a lot in her teenage life. Forced into an arranged marriage to relieve her family debt, she was accused of murdering her husband, lived in hiding, was sexually assaulted, gave birth to a child as a result of the attack, and hid her secret for decades.
“Covey had to endure a lot, and she went through some things that I’m lucky I don’t even have to think about in my life,” Isaac explained. “Her parents failed her and all the adults around her as a child failed her. She had to grow up very quickly.”
Isaac said her favorite thing about Covey is her fighting spirit.
“What I love about Covey is that she’s very resilient. And she hasn’t forgotten who she is. At the end of her life, we see this woman, but we can see Covey in this woman. She’s still And that was true throughout her life, the fire within her was never extinguished,” she said.
The complete first season of Blackcake is now streaming on Hulu, with the season finale airing on Wednesday, December 6.
