A social media post purported to be by an AMC employee claimed that theater workers were instructed to add a liquid to audience sodas that, when tested in a lab, was found to resemble nanobots.
Harmon explained that the media labeled the film “faith-based” and “conservative,” and then created conspiracy theories about the film to convince people not to watch it. The conspiracy theory began circulating on social media 24 to 48 hours before the film’s July 4th release. At the time, the movie had grossed over 10 million copies.
On opening night, Harmon said, there were reports of audiences standing ovating, crying and even hugging complete strangers at the end of the film.
“It’s something you rarely see in movies,” he said.
Harmon went on to say that moviegoers would then see conspiracy theories on social media.
“So social media exploded because someone was tagging the movie, and everyone who had seen the movie was saying it was … all made up,” Harmon said. “So you end up with a war on social media in a matter of hours [the movie launching]”.
Harmon said the media elite was spreading the hashtag “trying to attack the movie,” while people who had seen it were defending it. The disaster catapulted the film into the #1 trending topic on X (formerly Twitter).
Angel Pictures spokesman Matthew Farage said: “The success of this film speaks for itself, with audiences from all walks of life and from all perspectives embracing it.” Weekly newspaper. “During the campaign, we’ve been telling people we want you to go see this movie and judge for yourself.”
