According to reports on September 19, Unreal Engine, Epic Games’ development framework for deploying interactive 2D and 3D content, has integrated LUKSO’s mainnet and standards into its recently enhanced blockchain integration plug-in. tweet. The tool currently supports various platforms, including Polygon and Avalanche.
Unreal Engine Blockchain Integration Plugin Supports LUKSO
LUKSO added that the merger means users will be free to interact directly with universal profiles and flexible non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the game. Universal profiles in LUKSO are interoperable and represent verified digital identities, enabling users to control their online avatars and digital assets.
Interested users can purchase and download blockchain tools.Based on Unreal Engine document, the plugin is a set of tools and libraries that allow game developers to integrate blockchain functionality into their games. This functionality is possible because the plugin can communicate with smart contracts programmed using Solidity.
The engine can communicate with smart contracts compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), including LUKSO. Unreal Engine also revealed that the plugin allows users to mint, transfer and use non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as a “gateway” to exploration. Users can also use the plug-in to integrate earn-while-playing (P2E) functionality.
Hours after the deal became public, LYX, the native token of the LUKSO blockchain, remained stable but firm. Like the broader cryptocurrency market, the coin is recovering after a sharp decline since mid-August. At the time of writing on September 19, LYX was changing hands at $5.56, down 43% from its peak in July when the token was listed on cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin.
Plans to support Bitcoin, Solana and OpenSea
Initially, when the Unreal Engine blockchain integration tool was launched, it only supported Ethereum, a pioneering smart contract platform whose NFT and game ecosystem is relatively more active.
However, in subsequent updates, Epic Games integrated zero-knowledge rollups, Immutable X, and Optimism, a layer 2 solution designed to scale Ethereum while keeping transaction costs low. Prior to this update, the plugin also supported the ERC-20 and ERC-1155 standards.
Epic Games and Unreal Engine integrated LUKSO functionality before Solana, although the former was EVM compatible. While Solana offers high scalability and low transaction fees, LUKSO was co-founded by Fabian Vogelsteller, the author of the ERC-20 standard, which powers thousands of tokens, including Uniswap’s native token UNI; and Maker’s governance token MKR.
Vogelsteller is considered one of the few people who shaped Ethereum in its early days. The engine plugin will also support OpenSea and Bitcoin in future releases.
