New York – More than 85,000 high chairs sold by major North American retailers have been recalled due to a fall hazard that has resulted in a small number of injuries, according to federal regulators.
Toy and baby products company TOMY International Inc. is recalling about 83,000 copies of the Boon Flair and Flair Elite high chairs sold in the U.S. and another in Canada, the Oak Brook, Illinois-based distributor and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. 2,850 sheets.
According to this week’s recall notice, the bolts that secure the high chair seat may come loose, causing the seat to fall off. The CPSC said Thursday that TOMY has received 34 reports of chairs coming off their bases so far. This resulted in 20 falls and 11 injuries, such as bruises or scratches.
The recalled high chairs were sold in person or online through retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Toys R Us, Amazon and Walmart, TOMY and CPSC said. The “Flair” high chair was sold from 2008 to 2009, while the “Flair Elite” model was sold from 2008 to 2017.
Consumers can identify a product by its model number and date of manufacture code. All of the recalled high chairs come in a variety of colors and were manufactured in China before 2016.
Those who own the recalled high chairs are asked to stop using them immediately. TOMY states that “consumers are not required to return the highchair” and instead we urge affected consumers to contact the company for a free repair kit.
TOMY says customers will receive a set of bolts, splits and flat washers to repair the high chair.
