Ethereum developers have gathered to pay tribute to the teams behind Ganache and Truffle, two toolkits that were crucial in the early days of Ethereum smart contracts.

In a post on September 22, Consensys announced the discontinuation of Metamask Snap and SDK as part of a broader move toward both products.

Consensys announces retirement of Truffle & Ganache as we shift focus to supporting developers @MetaMask Tools like Snaps and SDK.

Recognizing the importance of truffles and ganache, we are working with @HardhhatHQ Facilitate a smooth transition

Georgios Konstantopoulos, chief technology officer and partner at Paradigm, described the announcement as “the end of an era” and said he had written the first smart contract on Truffle Suite.

Likewise, anonymous developer and popular cryptocurrency commentator Foobar wrote that Truffle was the first technology stack he used to write smart contracts on Ethereum.

Thank you for all your hard work! Truffle was my first stack for smart contracts

“The toolkit that helped me launch my career. You may have contributed more to this field than you know.” wrote Another Ethereum developer responded to the announcement.

Truffle Suite was launched in 2015, and its team and technology were acquired by Consensys in 2020. Consensys said that at the time of the acquisition, the Truffle suite was relied upon by 1.3 million developers around the world.

To ease the transition phase between technology stacks, Consensys explained in a separate blog post that it will work with HardHat to help developers write and deploy new software on the Ethereum network.

Consensys wrote: “We are investing in new tools and APIs to enable developers to build powerful DApps using MetaMask, Infura and Linea, which is why the Truffle engineering team will join these teams to accelerate the construction of its developer products.”

According to reports on September 22 postal On X (formerly Twitter), Truffle Suite will be phased out over the next 90 days. According to Consensys, the Truffle and Ganache code bases will continue to be available as public archives thereafter.

Within the Ethereum development community, Ganache is a popular tool for creating, evaluating, and deploying smart contracts. It is a popular technology stack due to its interoperability with Truffle Suite, a development framework for building, testing, and deploying smart contracts on Ethereum.

Metamask “Snaps” is Consensys’ name for new DApps built by third-party developers that extend the functionality of the Metamask wallet. Simon Morris, head of strategy at Consensys, recently shared with Cointelegraph that the upcoming MetaMask Snaps will function similarly to Apple’s App Store.
