The inauguration of Terminal 2 at Bengaluru Kempegowda International Airport, which was due to start international operations on 31 August, has been postponed. Developed by Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), the airport will open in November 2022 with plans to shift international flights from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.
However, the airport company has issued a statement confirming the postponement: “The planned transfer of international operations to Terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, on 31 August 2023 has been postponed. After consulting all the regulators, BIAL A firm date for the transition of international operations will be released tomorrow.” Last-minute decisions were made during a final readiness review to ensure a seamless transition for passengers. It added that international flights will continue to operate from Terminal 1 until further notice.
The company apologizes for any inconvenience caused and urges international passengers to contact their respective airlines for more information. A firm transition date will be announced on August 31.
According to reports, Singapore Airlines was supposed to be the first airline to operate at T2.
Terminal 2 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 11, 2022, and began operating domestic flights on January 15 of the following year. Although Terminal 2 only handles domestic flights, we have made an effort to provide amenities for future international travelers. Terminal 2 houses immigration counters, customs, duty-free shops, retail and food and beverage outlets. Passengers can also take advantage of the free shuttle service between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
