Mexico – A pilot died Sunday when his plane crashed while attending a gender reveal party in Mexico.
Video posted online showed the plane releasing pink smoke, surrounded by pink and blue balloons, as it flew over a couple waiting in front of an “Oh Baby” sign.
The recording captured the moment the plane’s left wing appeared to separate from the fuselage as it flew away from the crowd below.
Authorities in Navolato, Sinaloa told CNN en Español, a CNN sister network, that the pilot died in hospital after the crash.
Paramedics treated the pilot at the crash site in San Pedro, Navorato, before taking him to a local hospital, Alan Francisco Rangel of the Sinaloa Red Cross told CNN , but he died in hospital.
Authorities have not released the pilot’s name and the cause of the crash is not yet known.
There were no reports of further casualties from the accident.
Gender reveal parties are considered a fun way to tell family and friends whether they are about to welcome a girl or a boy into the world.
What would otherwise be a low-key event involving cutting a cake with colorful icing, or maybe a few fireworks, some parents-to-be decide instead on a risky and expensive gender reveal.
At a 2017 unveiling in Arizona, guests were asked to shoot at a makeshift target with the words “boy” and “girl” scrawled on it.
When the target containing the high-explosive Tennilet exploded, a cloud of blue gas rose into the air, instantly igniting the surrounding bush.
It was a boy, and the party sparked a 47,000-acre wildfire that ultimately cost guilty customers more than $8 million in compensation.
In October 2019, in Iowa, a gender reveal party collapsed when a family inadvertently planted a pipe bomb. When the device exploded, the entire pipe exploded, sending shrapnel flying and killing a grandmother who was standing nearby.
