Farmingdale High School students travel to Pennsylvania for band camp

WAWAYANDA, ORANGE COUNTY (WABC) — A bus carrying high school students rolled down an embankment in Orange County Thursday afternoon, killing one person and injuring at least 46 others, five of them seriously.
The bus, carrying students from Farmingdale High School in Nassau County, overturned on Interstate 84. They traveled to Greeley, Pennsylvania to attend a music event at band camp.
The crash occurred on westbound Interstate 84 in Wawayanda around 1:20 p.m., and the westbound lanes at Exit 15 have been closed for the investigation.
The person killed in the crash is believed to be an adult. The five seriously injured passengers are believed to be teenagers.
The victim was transported to Westchester County Medical Center and Garnett Health Medical Center in Wallkill.
The Farmingdale School District issued the following statement:
“We have been informed that Bus 1 was involved in an accident while en route to band camp in Greeley, Pennsylvania. Police and emergency personnel are on scene as well as district administrators. We will provide another update when more information is available .We ask for your patience as we gather more details.”
A spokesman for SUNY Orange said the college’s athletic center will be used as a family information/reunion center.
