Suspect exchanges fire with NYPD; suspect arrested

St. Albans, Queens (WABC) — Two NYPD officers exchanged fire with a suspect in Queens early Monday morning.

When officers arrived at the intersection of 190th Street and Linden Avenue around 3:20 a.m., a 35-year-old man opened fire on officers, officials said.

Police returned fire, but fortunately, no one was injured in the shooting.

Authorities said the suspect was taken into custody and a weapon was found. The police were taken to a local hospital for examination.

Detectives lined up in the St Albans area late Monday morning to investigate. Evidence markers line the center of the street.

Most local businesses remained closed in the late morning, but people were seen entering and exiting a social service organization in Nigeria.

Police are still investigating the reasons for the initial 911 call. The incident is under investigation.
