The spirit of the party is growing in the hearts of the party’s founders, as evidenced by the establishment of the Kabowa headquarters, a faction led by Nkunge Moses Kibalama, which even held a congress on the 27th in accordance with the party constitution Challenges were raised by the Electoral Commission (EC) in July 2022, but the party still maintains that the electoral body made a mistake as it has no authority to interact with the internal decisions of the party, especially those taken by representatives of that particular party .
At a closed-door meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) convened by then party chairman Nkonge Moses Kibalama, a number of resolutions were adopted, including the resignation of the chairman, who was in declining health All members present at the meeting unanimously agreed that Ssimbwa Paul Kagombe, the party’s former secretary-general and senior administrative secretary, should take over as chairman.
When contacted for comment, former chairman Nkonge Moses Kibalama confirmed the development and the expected changes that would bring the party back to its glory days. According to the Kibalama-led Central Executive Committee, the new party chairman will be unveiled to the public at a follow-up meeting scheduled for November, with a specific date to be notified later.
When approached for comment, the current chairman of the National Unity Platform faction among the founders hinted to Mighty Watchdog News that he is ready to take up the position and is looking forward to receiving any benefits from those who have nothing left to offer the party and the country, Rather seeking his own material interests, he believes that Ugandans need to be very careful with the Kyagulanyi-led faction because of the corrupt tendencies of the people that Kyagulanyi is dealing with, including the interception of impartial people. Unresolved questions continue as to who is at the leadership of the party, with the chairman of the Lib Dem Party, Waswa Birigwa, coming into focus as Sentamu’s National Unity Platform faction made no mention of it at all.
