Newark, NJ (WABC) — The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting involving police officers.
A male victim was pronounced dead after a shooting in Newark’s Westside Park around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The identity of the victim and further details of the incident have not been released.
Members of the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Offenders Task Force (NY/NJRFTF), along with members of other local law enforcement agencies, were in the area when the incident occurred, according to a statement released by the attorney general’s office.
The victim was later pronounced dead at University Hospital.
“The Attorney General’s Office is currently investigating whether this death falls within the jurisdiction of the law,” the statement read.

NewsCopter 7 flew over the scene shortly after the shooting and captured medical debris strewn across the scene.
Among the debris was a backpack defibrillator.
The shooting took place on the east side of Broadside Park, between the baseball and football fields.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is also investigating at the scene.
It is not yet clear what led to the shooting.
