More than 50,000 companies are currently testing Google Cloud’s generative AI models. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the number of AI projects has increased 15-fold in the past four months.
Kurian was speaking at the Native Digital Summit in Bengaluru. Recently, Google Cloud has launched several cloud technologies that utilize generative artificial intelligence, such as AI-optimized infrastructure, Vertex AI, and Duet AI.
He noted that all new infrastructure, tools and enhancements are designed to bring convenience and efficiency. Kurian also said the company is working with a large ecosystem of partners and is integrating its model packaging applications, such as SAP and Salesforce, among others. It is also working with independent software vendors (ISVs) and is training various partners to help with implementation. “We’ve made a public commitment to train 150,000 people on GenAI, and up to a million people on GenAI,” he noted.
The CEO is also bullish on the startup ecosystem. He said a large entrepreneurial ecosystem is using Google Cloud Platform to build its own models. “We also offer our technology to the broad start-up ecosystem, and we see a lot of companies using the same technology. We also offer a range of liability shaping controls,” he said. Seventy percent of the top 100 unicorns run on Google Cloud, the company said.
Kurian also noted that artificial intelligence is an area Google has been working on since 2004, and that the capabilities of its models have made huge strides. Google Cloud achieved a $32 billion annual revenue run in the second quarter of 2023 and was profitable in the second quarter.
