VALE CREEK, LONG ISLAND (WABC) — A man has been arrested on Long Island after a shooting at an illegal party in Valley Stream last month killed a man.
Kyle Matthews, 21, was arraigned Thursday morning. He was charged with murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.
He told reporters Thursday morning that he did not shoot.
Police said they knew who they were looking for based on multiple surveillance footage. They also said Matthews was only one of two shooting suspects in the case.
On August 21, a shooting incident occurred at 85 Ocean Avenue, and dozens of people fled for their lives.
DeAndre Carter, a 20-year-old man from Brooklyn, was shot in the chest and three children were wounded.
A 12-year-old boy who was standing in the doorway was hit in the upper left shoulder after a bullet entered his back.
Two other 17-year-old boys from El Monte were also attacked. One was hit in the back of the leg and the other was hit in the knee.
The shooting is believed to be gang-related, and police said Matthews, who had been arrested multiple times before, should have been jailed.
Nassau County Police said: “This man should be in jail so this senseless murder doesn’t happen and the other three victims were shot because this bad guy was still on the street and that’s what we have to stop ’” Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
Matthews will return to court next week.
