    Japanese C2C marketplace Mercari Inc. to expand workforce in India

    Japanese consumer-to-consumer (C2C) marketplace platform Mercari Inc. has opened its first office in India, a Global Center of Excellence (GCoE) in Bangalore, and will double its current headcount by 2024, to expand its business in India. Currently, its team size is 40 people.

    The GCoE marks the official opening of an office for the company, which has been setting up offices in the country since the establishment of the CoE last August. According to the company, the CoE has played an important role in supporting the Japanese business.

    “The inauguration of our new office underscores our commitment to fostering innovation and technical expertise on a global scale. As our dedicated team continues to grow, we are well positioned to drive technological breakthroughs and deliver exceptional experiences to our customers around the world.” Mercari Inc. Vice President and Group Chief Technology Officer Ken Wakasa said.

    The Indian team works with the Japanese development team, and the center has professional teams focused on backend, mobile development, infrastructure, and more. In addition, the company said it will also add people focused on backend, mobile development, infrastructure, and more to bolster the company’s engineering workforce.

    “Our team of highly skilled technical talent has played a key role in driving innovation and growth over the past year,” said Vish Magapu, Senior Director and Field Leader, Mercari India. “Our aim is to leverage the potential of India’s diverse talent pool. , making us a global technological powerhouse.”

    Claiming to have more than 22 million active users in Japan, Mercari aims to build an ecosystem of value circulation while developing financial and encryption services based on e-commerce type platforms.
