Miami– Idalia made landfall in Florida’s Great Bend area just before 8 a.m. Wednesday as a Category 3 hurricane. It has since been downgraded to a tropical storm.
The latest route is from Idalia through Georgia until Wednesday night into the Carolinas.

Life-threatening storm surges are a major threat.

Storm surge has inundated much of the Tampa Bay coast.
Storm surges could reach 11 feet near the Big Bend area and 5 feet in flood-prone cities like Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina.
The heaviest rainfall over the next 12 to 24 hours will be in the Carolinas, with some areas possibly approaching 10 inches.

Heavy rain will hit North Carolina’s Outer Banks by 7 a.m. Thursday and Idalia will move off the coast by late Thursday morning.
