EAST Elmhurst, Queens (WABC) — As airlines continue to be short of staff, flight schedules are thrown into chaos whenever the weather is bad. Many people have been waiting to leave since Saturday and even Friday – either forced to leave and come back, or simply hanging on.
“All you can do is be patient. You can’t make the storm go away. You can’t make the plane go faster,” Abby Dinges said.
While that’s good advice, after a day and a half of torrential rain and canceled flights, LaGuardia Airport’s patience is being tested, with Sunday’s delays the worst of any major New York airport.
“All our flights are canceled and there are no more flights to Orlando, so we’re stuck in town for another day,” Federico Rojas said.
“We came to the airport, ready to go, but they said it was cancelled,” Carlos Rojas added.
The Rojas family just hopes they don’t have to be stuck at the airport, and if they get more warning that they’ll be in New York for a day, they’ll make the most of it.
Ki Gains was the only one of her colleagues in town who worked on Fashion Week to go out on Sunday night – everyone else had to wait until Monday.
“Of course they want to have a hotel to stay in because it’s not their fault and a place to sleep. I mean, it’s expensive here in New York, an Uber ride is like $50, so it’s a matter of life or death, “He said. reward.
Many travelers at LaGuardia Airport are trying to leave for the second or third time. Delays are improving – now 29 minutes or less, so they’ll have to be patient and wait longer.
“Especially be patient and kind to flight attendants because they’re underpaid and they can’t solve problems. Be kind to the people you interact with because being mean won’t get you far.” Dinges.
The skies are clearing and so should the delay backlog. The Newark Liberty are looking for the best way out. Arrival delays at JFK were the worst — still hours — not minutes.
