Nassau County, Long Island (WABC) — Nassau County law enforcement is examining the 1989 death of a sex worker for links to Gilgo Beach murderer Rex Heuermann.
Nassau County Police have been investigating the murder of Carmen Vargas since 1989.
Vargas, who was 29 when she died, was last seen getting into a truck outside her East Harlem apartment building in 1989.
Her body was found weeks later on Meadowbrook State Parkway.
A spokesman for the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office said: “We are working with our law enforcement partners to review unsolved homicides that fit the pattern described by Rex Shelman.”
Shelman is accused of killing three women who were found on Gilgo Beach in 2010. He is the prime suspect in the fourth murder.
