'General Hospital' star John J. York reveals he's battling two cancers

Hollywood– Actor John J. York is opening up about his life-changing diagnosis. The longtime “General Hospital” star revealed that he is battling two types of cancer.

Yorke has played the role of Mike Scorpio for thirty years. His characters have found themselves in dangerous situations dozens of times over the years. But now, Yorke has to deal with a real-life drama.

But his battle with cancer didn’t keep him down. He said he plans to stay strong and positive during his recovery journey.

“In December ’22, I was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and multiple smoldering myeloma,” York said.

Fans of the long-running daytime drama “General Hospital” are familiar with current Police Chief Mike Scorpio. In real life, he is now bravely facing cancer. He said he didn’t see this coming but was doing everything he could to combat the disease.

York has been working with Be the Match, a company that connects patients with matching donors for life-saving blood stem cell transplants.

“I’ve had three bone marrow biopsies over the past few months, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, so I’m going to have another bone marrow biopsy in a few weeks and I’m about to have a hematopoietic stem cell transplant,” York said. “I believe they found a match. , a perfect match, it would make me cry. So we’re going to start testing and have everything like that done in about a week. And then I believe the transplant will happen. Finger “I passed in November. The response has been overwhelming and, for me, overwhelming. If someone wants to be a donor and be able to save someone’s life, that would be a wonderful thing. “

York said he hopes his “General Hospital” fans will consider signing up on the lifesaving website. Visit bethematch.org for more information.
