Sweater season is the best season. Cooler temperatures, upcoming travel, and planned outdoor activities give me all the reasons to get dressed—and it all starts with knitting. It’s my favorite fashion time of the year! Here’s a look at five of my favorite fall sweaters to wear this October—and how I plan to style them.
Classic cashmere crew neck sweater
Let’s start with the most obvious, the classic cashmere crewneck. The most basic fall basics and the easiest, most comfortable sweaters to build your sweater collection with. This October I’m excited to incorporate fall color trends like lavender, apricot, cobalt, and of course chartreuse (you can see more of my chartreuse picks here ). I find the easiest way to incorporate color trends is through basic pieces and accessories. So I’ll start with a classic cashmere crewneck, pair it with my favorite fall denim (see our guide to fall denim here ) and go-to outerwear, and then add a matching accessory or two. simple! PS Don’t be afraid of classic cashmere cable staff like this one or this one!
POLO sweater
I love all the collared sweater options I’m seeing this season. These styles have a really fun silhouette and would make an underrated team all-star addition to any fall outfit. I plan to wear a sweater polo in a bolder color with a dark fall suit (a great example here), with an oversized jacket (see here), or with a patterned mini skirt and knee-high heels ( Like what I see here). There are so many ways to design them! There are others I like here (now $35), here , here , and here . If you’re looking for an over-the-top editorial collar sweater, this new arrival is sure to wow you.
turtleneck sweater
Nothing says fall like a cozy turtleneck. Depending on my look, I will vary the weight when wearing these fall sweaters. If I’m opting for something leaner and more chic, I’ll pair it with a lightweight turtleneck like this , this , or this , or even a sleeveless version like this . However, when I’m trying to stay super comfy or really layered, I opt for a thick knit turtleneck like this one (under $100) or this one (definitely not under $100). If all else fails, a 100% cashmere turtleneck – which doesn’t break the bank – always does the trick!
Upgraded cardigan sweater
I’ve always been obsessed with oversized grandpa cardigans, but this fall, I’m eyeing more updated versions of this classic silhouette. With that in mind, this longer ribbed polo cardigan sweater is currently at the top of my list. I can easily layer it over other knitwear and pair it with denim, or unbutton the bottom and wear it over a voluminous skirt! I also love the striped collar detail on this cropped cardigan and this luxe cashmere sweater. Plus, how cute is this shrunken cable cardigan tank top? Deep V College Sweater
I recently styled a varsity sweater here while discussing fall layering tips, and it got me thinking about how surprisingly versatile they can be. The deep V-neck pants allow you to wear a variety of woven shirts underneath or layer them with another sweater. This plunging varsity sweater vest is perfect and looks incredible paired with a crisp white woven miniskirt. Just match your accessories to the piping details on the ribs and you’re good to go!
