Franklin Township, NJ (WABC) — An Edison, New Jersey, police officer has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal single-vehicle crash in the town of Franklin, Somerset County.
Officer Amitoj Oberoi, 29, was off duty at the time.
Investigators say he was drunk and speeding when he lost control of the 2007 Audi Q7 and crashed early Sunday morning.
The incident happened at 6:22 a.m. on Somerset Street (Route 27) near Voorhees Avenue.

Police said Oberoi’s car hit several trees, lampposts and a utility pole before coming to a stop.
Two passengers died, Victor Cabrera-Francisco, 20, from North Brunswick, and Carlos Perez-Guitan, 24, from Somerset.
A third passenger, a 29-year-old man whose name has not been released, suffered minor injuries.
Oberoi, of Somerset, New Jersey, was hospitalized in stable condition and expected to recover.
He was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, drunk driving and other offences.
Edison Mayor Sam Joshi said he is “taking action to immediately relieve him of his duties with the Edison Police Department.”
